Monza Cathedral and the Iron Crown

Monza Cathedral and the Iron Crown

The Duomo of Monza, located in the historic centre and officially named the Basilica minore di San Giovanni Battista, is one of the symbols of the city of Monza due to the numerous artefacts of inestimable historical, cultural, and artistic value that it holds, notable among which is the Iron Crown (Corona Ferrea). Venerated first and foremost as a relic, the iron hoop inside the crown is traditionally said to have been made from one of the nails used in the crucifixion of Christ. The complex and monumental structure of the Duomo of Monza amazes visitors with its Gothic-style exterior façade, characterised by alternating black and white marble, and the lively beauty of its frescoes.
